Description

Stuart is a Wirral based artist, originally studied fashion in Liverpool John Moores University. Afterwards he worked briefly as a fashion illustrator before moving on to work in the area of interior design. Although continuing to paint and draw throughout this period, he made the move to leave full-time employment to focus on painting just 3 years ago. Working from a home studio and almost exclusively in oils he has chosen to specialise in portraits, his background in fashion is very evident in his choice of subject and composition- his paintings have an editorial style, and are painted in a traditional style with a clean, almost graphic edge. His compositions are dramatic and strong- often emphasised by dramatic lighting, dark backgrounds and intense shots of colour. His work truly epitomises the “art of fashion”.

His love of painting and capturing the nuances of fabric is very evident, as is his ability to capture the beauty and endless variety of the human face. Stuart also works on commission paintings for private clients in between working on his own collections. He has a determination to refine and progress in his work and is his own harshest critic which allows for the constant evolution of his painting style. His paintings are sought after by collectors and clients who love art that demands attention.
